Possible fraudulent local scam

Notice from Dudley Fire Chief
Dean Kochanowski

Posted Feb. 6

Fire Chief Dean Kochanowski would like to inform all Dudley residents of a possible fraudulent fundraising scam. On February 3, 2012 some Dudley residents called the Dudley Fire station stating they had received calls from a person stating to with the Massachusetts Call/Volunteer Firefighters Association and that they were conducting a fundraiser to raise money for local fire departments, specifically the Town of Dudley. Residents were asked to leave money out on their front step or in their front door for pick up tomorrow.

Currently The Dudley Fire Department is conducting no such fundraiser and although the Massachusetts Call/ Volunteer Firefighters is a legitimate organization. They would never conduct a fundraiser in this manner. They would first contact local fire departments and conduct their fundraising efforts through the local departments. Forms would have to be filled out and prior solicitation would have been conducted through the press and via mail, etc.

This is most likely a scam for persons to steal money from local citizens. Do not leave money out for any reason. Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to call the Dudley Fire Department or the Dudley Police Department.
