Dawidczyk wins 55-meter hurdles and long jump at States

Worters comes in third in 1000 meters

BOSTON – Oxford High School senior track star Emily Dawidczyk shone at the MIAA All-State meet this past Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Arena in Boston, winning both the 55-meter hurdles and the long jump.

Dawidczyk recorded an 8.29 in the 55-meter hurdles and a personal best 17’ 9 1/2” in the long jump in a dazzling effort.

“I wasn't expecting two wins at all,” said Dawidczyk. “It felt really good to win the hurdles after hitting two last week. Right before my race I really had to focus in and pump myself up, I was nervous that I'd hit a hurdle again. Getting back in the 8.2 range definitely meant a lot, it makes me feel a little more confident going into New England's.”

“The long jump win was a huge surprise. I was shocked when I heard the official say how long I jumped. I didn't jump in the 17's until that jump and it was my fifth jump, the second jump of the finals. I'm especially happy with it because it is my personal best so far. I wasn't expecting to do two events in New England's so it's a big deal for me,” said Dawidczyk.

championships, Shepherd Hill junior Stella Worters came in third in 1000 meters with a time of 2:57.22, which is her personal best, and a new school record.

The Shepherd Hill 4X800 team of Lucy Harmon, Emily Thibaud, Haley Chamberlain, and Worters came in a very respectable ninth place.

Another local athlete, Uxbridge High School senior Emily Cahill, won the high jump.
