Local Toys for Tots Drive underway

By Charles Kelleher Harris

OXFORD- Doctor Antoinette Parvis appeared before the board of selectmen Tuesday to announce the beginning of the local “Toys for Tots” drive.

“I love this time of year,” Parvis said, “This is my 30th year as a sponsor.”

Toys for Tots is a charitable toy drive founded and organized by the United States Marine Reserve to provide Christmas toys for underprivileged children.

Parvis, whose office at 216 Main Street serves as a drop off point, will be hosting a community reception and toy drive on Saturday Dec. 8.

The reception being held from 11 am through 1 pm will include music, refreshments and a visit from Santa Claus.

Parvis encouraged all to come out and share in the good cheer for a good cause.

“There are so many people to thank,” Parvis said, adding, “There are various local businesses and organizations that donate toys and money every year.”

“I would like to thank you again,” said Selectman Dennis Lamarche, “It never gets tired for you.”

“It doesn’t get tired for me,” Parvis responded, “Because I always hear stories about ones who have benefited from this.”

Parvis completed her presentation by inviting the entire board to Saturday’s reception.

Also discussed at the Monday night meeting was the proposal and passage of motions to grant liquor licenses and closing privileges for establishments in 2013.

Town Administrator Joseph M. Zeneski read to the board all of the local establishments requesting licenses contingent upon proof of worker’s compensation, liquor liability, payment of taxes and passing a safety inspection.

The board voted to grant all licenses and closing privileges.
