OXFORD – The Oxford Lady Pirates found out this past Wednesday (April 17) why Leicester senior pitcher Lauren Tuiskula is considered one of the best pitchers in Central Mass.
The highly regarded Tuiskula (5-0) was outstanding, striking out 15 Pirates batters while giving up only two hits and at the same time—helping out her own cause at the plate going 3 for 3 in the 4-2 victory.
Senior co-captain Sarah Smith and senior outfielder Mimi Abreu had the only hits for the Pirates.
Abreu’s single drove home junior Jamie Brodeur, who had walked, with the second Pirates run.
Pirate’s sophomore pitcher Evelyn Marquis also pitched extremely well, allowing only 4 hits while striking out 5 Wolverine batters in a great losing effort.
The orange and black dropped their third straight on Thursday when Marquis lost a tough 2-0 pitcher’s duel to Lauren Kapatoes and Hopedale.
The 3-3 Pirates have four away games in the next week. They play at Tantasqua (April 24), at Uxbridge (April 25), at Southbridge on Saturday (April 27), and at Quaboag on Monday (April 29) before facing Worcester South at Home on Tuesday (April 30).
