Huberdault drops 27 in win

WEBSTER – The short-handed Bartlett Indians went on an 18-2 run to open the third quarter and cruised to an 86-66 win over the Tyngsboro Tigers in the opening round of the Central Mass Division 2 district playoffs Tuesday night at Bartlett.

The Indians’ team, hit by a bout of the flu, was six players short, including starting center Jacob Mailloux and sixth man Neil Flanigan.  Still, Indians’ coach Tony Paranto was able to use his bench effectively and rely on the leaders in his starting lineup, to advance to a semi-final game vs. perennial Central Mass power St. Bernard’s of Fitchburg.

WORCESTER –  The Bartlett Indians were knocked out of the opening round of the Clark Tournament by a hot shooting and physical Auburn Rockets team 59-54 in a heated battle on Monday afternoon.

The Indians shot the ball poorly early, helping the Rockets get a 17-11 advantage at the end of opening quarter.

Bartlett Junior/ Senior High School Showcase a big hit

Webster - Bartlett Junior/Senior High School held its first-ever open house showcase at the school on Wednesday, February 6, from 6:30-8:30. 

The school was open to the general public and featured booths set up throughout the building, including the cafeteria and gymnasium, showcasing activities that were run by both students and teachers.

Webster Superintendent of Schools Barbara Malkas said the night, which was the brainchild of Bartlett Principal Steven Knowlton, was a huge success and gave the public the opportunity to see all the great things that are happening at the high school.

Cougars build big lead, hold on for 74-62 win over Indians

WEBSTER – The Quaboag Cougars, led by the outstanding scoring duo of senior guard Thomas Jankins and sophomore forward Jake Wisniewski, knocked off the Bartlett Indians for the fifth time in the last two seasons and in the process kept them from winning a SWCL championship on Tuesday (February 5) 74-62 in front of a big crowd at the Bartlett gym.

The Indians, who are 11-3 in their division and 12-5 overall, could still gain the SWCL title if they win their final two games and the Cougars, also 11-3, loses at least one of their two remaining SWCL games. If the Indians had beat the Cougars Tuesday, they would have been in a much better position, but it didn’t happen.

Bartlett girls beat Prouty 35-27

WEBSTER – The Bartlett Indians overcame a five-point halftime deficit and went on to defeat the David Prouty Panthers 35-27 in Southern Worcester League girls basketball action last Friday (February 1) night at the Bartlett gym.

Spurred by freshman guard Caroline James, who had six of her nine points during a third-quarter surge, the Indians were able to pick up their third victory of the season.

Indians fall to Rockets 62-56

WEBSTER – The Bartlett Indians were victimized by nine 3-pointers and fell to the Auburn Rockets 62-56 on Tuesday night, Jan. 29, in a Southern Worcester County League game at Bartlett High School.

The Rockets opened a 12-3 lead in the opening minutes of the game before senior co-captain Akeem Belnavis connected on a pair of 3-pointers to get the Indians within three points.

Senior co-captain Matt Huberdault hit a deep 3-point shot at the buzzer making it 21-21 after the opening quarter in a game that was highly contested throughout.

WEBSTER – Junior Alex Givins-Perry had 20 points, six in the last minute, to lead the Bartlett Indians past the Uxbridge Spartans 71-60 in a fast-paced Southern Worcester County League battle Tuesday (January 22) night.

The Indians, coming off a tough loss at home to Douglas, came out with a different look with sophomore Jacob Simonis making his first varsity start.  Simonis has been playing solid ball for the junior varsity and is capable of giving the varsity some instant offense if they need it.

WEBSTER - The Douglas Tigers took advantage of missed free throws in a foul-filled game and beat the Bartlett Indians 65-63 in a huge upset win on Sunday, January 20.

Things got off to a great start for the Indians with senior co-captain Akeem Belnavis scoring 13 first quarter points, including  three 3-pointers, to help his team open a 20-10 lead.

Junior forward Alex Givins-Perry took over where Belnavis left off in the second quarter, leading the Indians with 15 points as the Indians put together what looked like a solid thirteen point 37-24 half-time lead.

Cougars stop Indians cold 56-40

WARREN - The Quaboag Cougars stymied the Bartlett Indians defensively and used some of their own hot shooting en route to defeating their Southern Worcester County League rival 56-40 on Wednesday, January 9, in a game that raised a few eyebrows.

The Indians were coming off a huge offensive performance in which they scored 104 points against Southbridge two days earlier and were on a seven-game winning streak, so no one really expected a role reversal this extreme.

Bartlett girls fall to Millbury

WEBSTER – The Bartlett Indians fell to the Millbury Woolies 53-14 last Thursday, Jan. 4, in girls SWCL action.

Junior Kayla Podell played a solid defensive game, blocking eight shots to go along with four points for the Indians, who stayed close to the Woolies early, trailing only 7-4 after one quarter.

Freshman Katie Kobel scored four points, while freshman Natalie Terranova, playing in her second varsity game, scored her first points in a varsity uniform for the Indians.
