Joan (Strenk) Kubiak, 90
Joan (Strenk) Kubiak, 90, the beloved wife of the late Benjamin Kubiak, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2013 with her daughter and son-in-law at her side. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years who died unexpectedly on December 29, 2012.
Born in Webster, MA, the daughter of Mary and Stanislaw Strenk, Joan was predeceased by sisters, Janina Strenk and Stasia Krawczyk and a brother, Chester Strenk. Upon their marriage, Joan and Ben built their home on the Kubiak property in the Wilsonville section of Thompson where they raised their family and built their business, State Line Power Equipment.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Bernadette Quercia and her husband Cosmo of Thompson, grandchildren Kaleen Taft and her husband Timothy of Putnam, and Christopher Quercia and his wife Amy of Southbridge, MA. In addition, survivors include the loves of her life, her great grandchildren Emily and Lydia Taft, Kylie and Lucas Quercia and Ava and Ella Simoes.
Most of Joan's working years were spent at the Anglo Fabrics Woolen Mill where she was a percher/finish examiner. Upon her retirement she joined her husband in the operation of their business, State Line Power Equipment. Joan enjoyed many hobbies well into her 80s. She was skillful and very talented at knitting, crocheting and needlepoint and has passed on many of her treasures to her grandchildren. A self-taught horticulturist, Joan could cultivate and propagate even the most delicate flowers and took great pride in her beautiful flower gardens.
During their many happy years of marriage, Joan and Ben enjoyed Polka dancing and spent many weekends following Polka Bands. They also enjoyed traveling to Bermuda, Aruba, and Las Vegas. But Joan's true passion was her family. " Busi" was a kind and caring person whose selflessness was never ending. Nothing gave her more pleasure than the quality time she spent with her family and "Busi" will be greatly missed.
Joan and Ben were a match made in heaven, and after 6 weeks apart, Joan has finally reunited with the love of her life for all of eternity. A special thanks to the kind and loving staff at Lanessa Extended Care who took great care of our "Busi" during the last years of her life.
