Marjorie A. Wheeler, 96

THOMPSON, CT – Marjorie A. (Brackett) Wheeler, 96, of Thompson Road and formerly of Oxford, died Sunday, January 22, 2012, at Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Raymond M. Wheeler. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Austin and her husband Ray of Thompson, CT; many grandchildren, including Randy Austin, Dianne Barrett, Jim Austin, Ray Wheeler, Jim Wheeler, and David Ward; many great grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. She was predeceased by two sons, David A. Wheeler and Raymond F. Wheeler; a brother, Wayne Brackett; and two sisters, Sylvia Brackett and Alicia Bonin. She was born in Lunenburg, the daughter of the late Frank and Evelyn (Page) Brackett, and lived most of her life in Oxford before moving to Thompson, CT, in 1996. She graduated from Lunenburg High School.

Mrs. Wheeler worked at home making crafts. She enjoyed making quilts and afghans, as well as items for babies and veterans. Previously, she worked as a nurse’s aide for many years. She was a longtime member of the United Church of Christ in Webster, and attended HighPointe Church in Thompson, CT, in later years.

Calling hours are Wednesday, January 25, 2012, from 5-7 p.m. at Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. A private graveside service will be held at North Cemetery in Oxford at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Thompson Ecumenical Empowerment Group (TEEG), P.O. Box 664, North Grosvenordale, CT 06255.
