WEBSTER – Maureen E. (Scanlon) Beland, 76, of Oakwood Drive, died Sunday, January 6, 2013, at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus, after a short illness. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Alfred E. Beland of Webster; a son, Patrick E. Scanlon of Grafton; two stepsons, Eric J. Beland and John M. Beland, both of Webster; two stepdaughters, Susan E. Vanderhoof of Webster and Jill E. Blain of Pomfret, CT; two brothers, John P. Scanlon of Shamrock, TX, and Thomas M. Scanlon of Providence, RI; two sisters, Deborah A. Halley of Webster and Doreen M. Bassett of Dudley; 16 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. She was born in Webster, the daughter of the late Patrick J. and Bridget (Fitzgibbons) Scanlon, and was a lifelong resident of Webster. She graduated from Bartlett High School in Webster in 1954.
Mrs. Beland was the comptroller at AJEC Engineering Corporation in Oxford for 36 years. She was past president of the Hubbard Regional Hospital Guild in Webster, past president of the Webster Lions Club, and the former assistant town clerk in Webster for several years. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Ireland and Hawaii with her husband and family. She will be missed by the many friends she made in Hawaii.
A funeral will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2013, from Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Roch’s Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at St. Roch’s Cemetery in Oxford. Calling hours are Wednesday, January 9, 2013, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
