Michael Sheldon Hibbard, 47
DUDLEY - Michael Sheldon Hibbard, 47, died Tuesday, February 12 at Mass General Hospital, Boston after a life long battle with cystic fibrosis surrounded by his loving family.
He leaves his significant other and the love of his life, Diane M. Anderson of Dudley and children Daniel, Debra, and David Anderson, and his dog Tanner. His father Robert E. Hibbard of Sun City Fl., his mother Judith A. (Sheldon) Hibbard of Brookfield. One brother: Jeffrey Hibbard of Spencer, one sister: Pamela Bugbee and her husband Mark of Holden and their two children, Kurt and Erin. Brother in law, Robert Kelly and his wife Jeri of Andover MN, and their three children Grace, Thomas and Patrick; mother in law, Theresa Kelly of Crystal, MN; predeceased by sister in law, Mary Beth (Kelly) Bruckner.
He was born in Ware, Ma and grew up in West Brookfield. He lived several years in Worcester before coming to Dudley in 1997. He graduated from Quaboag Regional H.S., Becker Jr. College and Delaware Valley College in PA. Mike was co-owner of Mountain Greenery in Princeton and worked as a salesman for TruGreen Chemlawn for many years.
Mike was very active in the scouting community. He was the Committee Chair and served previously as the Yard Sale Chairman and Finance Committee Chair for Boy Scout Troop 273, as well as Committee Chair and Treasurer for Cub Scout Pack 274 of Dudley. Mike also worked on the advancement committee for the Hassanamisco District in Mohegan Council. He received the George E. Jones Award in 2010 and the District Award of Merit in 2011 for his dedication to scouts and the scouting movement. Mike was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church and served on the Parish Council for several years. Mike was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed nature, weather, wildlife, gardening, lawn care, everything John Deere, talking to frogs & just being outside!
A funeral will be held Monday Feb. 18, from Bartel Funeral Home & Chapel, 33 Schofield Ave, Dudley with a Mass at 11 AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 24 Dudley Hill Rd, Dudley. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
